Mozart’s Final Hour: ‘Requiem,’ ‘Sound and Fury’ and ‘Entr’acte’ at the Greenville Symphony Orchestra

GREENVILLE — The Symphony Orchestra opens its 2026-27 season, “Common Ground,” with Mozart’s famed “Requiem.” For two nights only, experience the dark and mysterious final composition Mozart wrote before he was heard no more.

With guest singers from Clemson and Furman University, the symphony also partnered with guest soloists, including Amanda Sheriff (soprano), Stephanie Foley (mezzo-soprano), Randall Umstead (tenor) and Edwin Jhamaal Davis (bass).

The Symphony brings these singers and musicians together at the Peace Center Concert Hall, performing “Rex Tremendae,” “Confutatis,” “Lacrimosa” and more, before concluding with “Lux Aeterna.”

Music Director Lee Mills will conduct the orchestra, leading more than 100 musicians and singers in this captivating masterpiece.

“Mozart’s ‘Requiem’ lives in these remarkable contrasts — darkness and light, fear and consolation, intimacy and tremendous dramatic power,” Mills said. “The orchestra sometimes has a wonderfully dark color, while the chorus can move from a plea to terror and to consolation.
